(infect skill - resist skill*2 (minimum 1))*120%/(HP+GH(minimum 15)) (*0.5 if claw)

Important note: The current randomiser does not handle fractions. At all. It is physically impossible to infect someone if the result of the above equation is less than 1.00%, and there's no difference between a result of 2% and 2.9999999999%.

Infection is the only mechanic really affected by this (searching is affected a tiiiiny bit)

I don't quite get it....

So, If I have max infect (as smart), and someone has max resist as a human, what are MY chances of landing the infect?

Somewhere between 1% and 8%, depending on their health. Problem being that it varies with each bite you take so it's not a fixed number. Your chance of infecting someone is quite good though, since even odds of 99% failure are alleviated by the amount of times you'll be biting them.

StatFax: Your best possible chance is 72%

10% bite on a 20HP guy is something like 97%.

Huh?

(infect skill - resist skill*2 (minimum 1))*120%/(HP+GH(minimum 15))

So that's:

(10-1)*120/15  = 72

Where am I going wrong? Unless you're talking about your chance to infect before killing, i.e the cumulative chance of those 7 bites causing an infection. Which is probably around the 97% mark.

You forgot to take into account wind resistance.

[edit] When calculating your % chance to infect someone (or stay uninfected), try using the attached excell file Splicer added below.

The basic idea is that Resistance ranks cancel out Infection ones, so a way to roughly guess what your infect chance per bite is if you can guess whether the target bought resistances at all.  Lower HP targets grant fewer infect chances (they die quicker), but there's also the chance that they also had low General Health (GH) as well, meaning your infection chances actually increase.

I meant the chance to infect before killing Tongue

However!

minimum 1 means

(infect skill - resist skill*2)
(minimum 1)

as in, the total can be no less than 1. The minimum resist skill is no resist skill, aka 0. So the max multiplier is 8, so the max infect chance per bite is 8%.

(infect skill - resist skill*2)(minimum 1) might be a better way to phrase it in future, I think.

Excel

That was an example I made a while back to illustrate what would happen if we changed the rounding from 0 decimal places (current) to 1 decimal place. Here's the way infection works right now, including minimums and maximums and what have you.

Plug in the values, follow across from where it says "0" in the HP and that's the chance the target died uninfected.

Ahhh.  I shall delete the one I attached then, as so to not confuse anyone.
